Our Story
RCCCT was formed a quarter of a century ago by a group of visionary locals with one goal: to bring essential cancer treatment closer to home. Thanks to the generosity of our community – over $3.5 million in cash was raised, and this, along with generous donations in kind, enabled this comprehensive cancer care facility to be built in 2002, sparing patients and their families from exhausting long-distance travel for chemotherapy and radiation. The centre was named Riverina Cancer Care Centre, though some locals call it 'A Ray of Hope'.
This community's vision became a reality with the incredible support of The Little Company of Mary Health Care (Calvary Hospital), which generously made the land available for the centre. Their contribution laid the foundation—literally and figuratively—for a facility that continues to change lives, providing critical care to those who need it most.

One day, Ms Aichroy snuck away for lunch at a lemon-scented gum tree outside Calvary Riverina, where she and a colleague joked about asking the nuns if they could have a block of land to build a new centre on.
"Five years later, when we had the potential to build a new centre ... the nuns actually offered us that same parcel of land that Robin and I had sat on, underneath the lemon-scented gum tree," Ms Aichroy said.
"It's that tree now that patients who sit in the Cancer Care Centre treatment room look at when they're having their chemo."
Today, a passionate team of board members and volunteers continue their mission, ensuring that locals facing cancer receive the care they need, right where they need it. With community support, we can keep this vital service thriving for generations to come, ensuring the facilities are continuously maintained and updated.
An exciting next stage in the RCCCT mission to support cancer care in the Riverina
As part of a longer-term strategy to sustain and strengthen the purposes of the Trust, the Riverina Cancer Care Community Trust is pleased to announce that the Cancer Care Foundation, a registered charity, has now joined the Trust as the parent entity of the trustee. To drive this change, the retiring directors are delighted to handover to a new board, bringing together the current Mayor, key clinicians, local professionals and members of the Cancer Care Foundation board.
The incoming board wishes to pay tribute to the dedication and commitment of the retiring directors to enhancing cancer care over two decades.
The Cancer Care Foundation carries out cancer research and fundraising activities in NSW and Queensland and has had a long association with Cancer Care Riverina. The purpose of the Trust remains unchanged. All funds raised by the Trust will be utilised for the benefit of the Riverina Community and Cancer Care Riverina - local funds will stay local. The association with the Cancer Care Foundation will strengthen the Trust and provide long term stability to ensure the best possible cancer treatment is available for cancer patients of the Riverina.
